What are Your Goals

Good morning to you all. I hope that you all are hanging in there with the pandemic and are taking this time to try and do something that is going to be beneficial in the long run for you. This is a perfect time to reflect and figure out if there are changes in your life that maybe you should be making. It is also a perfect time to put this plan into action, whatever that may be. When I first started typing this, I was planning on talking about confidence and how confidence is the key to open so many doors in life. I think I’m going to flip the script though. Something that is just sitting on my mind more so than anything else right now is goals and goal planning

When someone asks you what your goals are what do you think of? For real, take a second and think about what your goals are right now. Either just think them in your head or even write them down on some scrap paper if you have it laying around. This question can be very broad in the way that you can analyze the question. You may be thinking about goals that are for the day, week, month, year, 5-year, 10 year and even longer. Goals are a driving force that can really kick you in the ass if you look at them daily or weekly and, let these goals help you make decisions.

At first, your goals can be a little vague as to get the framework of what you are trying to accomplish down in writing. Think of it as building a house. You need to start with the foundation and work your way up until you have walls and can now decorate. It is easy to start simple and work more detail as you go. An example is, in the next year my goal is to change jobs and get into an actual career. As you can see, that is a very basic starting point. I could then get into what exactly I want to do for work, in what amount of time I want to make this change, and even what it may look like once I reach that goal. Once you put more detail into your goals it is easier to make an action plan and figure out how you will attack and reach the goals you have set. To visualize your goal and what it will look like once it is accomplished adds a deeper layer. This allows you to focus in on your goal and pick every action that will get you to exactly that point that you envisioned.

I can admit that I need to work on my goal setting and visualizing. I won’t say that I always do this or that I’m perfect by any means. I can tell you though, from the times that I have written my goals out on paper, took the time to work the details, and visualize the end result that it happens much faster than if I didn’t. It is important to look at your goals daily if you can as well. Many people make vision boards so they can see what their goals or dreams are that they are working towards. I personally have a vision board, although it needs a little facelift it helps me stay focused on what it is that I want to accomplish. A vision board mixed with a journal of some sort is an exceptional combo. The board lets you see your goals and then if you start to forget what some of the details are that you told yourself you need to take to get there, you can refresh and refocus after reading the journal.

Another trick that can help you stay focused and geared up to tackle your goal is to SHARE IT. When you share your goal with close friends or family you are actually speaking it into existence and allowing people to hold you accountable for your goals. In a way, that is what this blog is for me. This is going to challenge me to stay on top of my goals, one of those being to keep blogging regularly and to keep improving my writing. One thing that I have struggled with in the past is not following through and this will help me. Don’t think, however, that if you do fall off track that you are a failure. No, you are just a person, it will happen from time to time but it is not the act of failing that will define you, it is what you do to get back to the grind and back to your goal that shows what you are made of. I believe that everybody can reach their goals when they truly put their mind to it. Oh, and DREAM BIG. This is something that I have written on a chalkboard that hangs in the garage, so I see it every single time I come home. Side note, maybe I should move this to a spot that I see it as I leave the house instead.

I will leave you with this, take some time today and think about your goals. Your short term and your long-term goals. Write them down, record them on your phone, make a vision board, it doesn’t matter how you do it just get those goals down somewhere that you can revisit them often. Figure out a plan for how you can reach those goals. Speak it into existence. Let others hold you accountable for these goals. Leave a comment below of one goal if you would like and we can all try to hold each other accountable.

            Much love and God Bless
